It’s not every day that kids get the chance to learn photography. In the case of the group called Photography with a Difference (PWD) they have been conducting “hero” workshops for children to improve their creativity and self-esteem, and in so doing, make them heroes in their own right.
The participants are composed of 20 kids who have disabilities ranging from blindness, to rare congenital conditions. The workshops also aim to promote the Manila Zoo where the workshop is being conducted. The PWD not only teaches the kids how to take pictures but also how to tell stories with their stories.
As part of the kids learning, they are also given additional hands-on education. The kids get to hold the animals, which is very important, specially for a blind child. Photos from the three Saturday sessions will be mounted in a traveling exhibit at various SM malls. The first exhibit will open on Sept. 21 at SM Manila.
