Slideluck, an event focused on building community by combining art slideshows with potluck dinners, now has a confirmed lineup of participating artists for its first-ever Manila edition.
The artists were picked from an open call that ended on Dec 14:

“The event provides an opportunity for artists and art-appreciators to gather around food, friends and artwork for an unforgettable night,” says Slideluck Manila director Gennevive Ramos, who organized the evening with two friends who share a similar appreciation of food and art.
“Most [of the participating artists] are from the Philippines and there are a couple of submissions from Filipinos based in Dubai. The ones who submitted internationally are from Mexico, Argentina, Belgium and Peru,” she reveals.
In an earlier interview with Coconuts Manila, Ramos had said that Slideluck Manila was open to artists from all walks of life and would be happy to accept paintings, drawings, even installations and sculptures as long as they’re in the slideshow format.
The event day will will begin with all participants dining on home-cooked dishes they’ve contributed, while drinking and mingling in a relaxed and spirited atmosphere. Following the potluck, the lights will be dimmed and a slideshow ensues.
The slideshows, many of which are cutting-edge multimedia presentations, will be accompanied by music and commentary by the artists who will be present at the event.
“Everyone is invited to attend Slideluck Manila and encouraged to bring a potluck dish — preferably homemade — for sharing. Attendance is free,” says Ramos. “Since this is an inaugural show, we are not expecting a large audience. We are hoping for a turn out of 75-100 people.”
The organizers, however, reserve the right to not serve contributed dishes if they are deemed questionable.
“We are also aware that the concept of bringing potluck to a public event is new and we do not want to inhibit what people can bring. Anything is welcome! In more established branches, there is a mailing list wherein people can post their potluck contribution and then later on post their recipes. Sometimes they even give a prize to the person with the best dish! We hope to be able to do this later on.” says Ramos.
“In regards to food safety, we are relying on the small number of attendees who will bring food, to bring food with a decent standard of edibility. We will also give the food submitted a once over before putting it out on the table and reserve the right to not serve any dishes that are questionable,” she adds.
Since 2000, this internationally acclaimed, non-profit event has been held in over 40 cities around the world. What began as a grassroots effort by award-winning advertising and editorial photographer, Casey Kelbaugh, in his Seattle backyard in the summer of 2000, has now become an international cultural phenomenon.
In 2014, Slideluck made its debut in Asia with events in Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, and now in Manila.
