Police authorities are still searching for the Korean-American drug dealer who escaped by walking out of the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) on Sat, a few days after he had undergone surgery for acute appendicitis.
“This group would like to announce, with deep regret, that Jun No, the American citizen of Korean descent… escaped from hospital detention,” said Supt. Enrico Rigor of the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) in a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
No, aka Jazz, was arrested in an entrapment operation on April 5 in a parking lot at Seaside Boulevard, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
He had 140 ecstacy tablets in his possession.
“The guards didn’t handcuff him to the bed… Before the deployment, there was a briefing by DEG and it was very clear that No should be handcuffed at all times to his hospital bed,” Rigor added.
According to the Philippine National Police, a Filipino woman Darleen Son, alias Soeyang, visited No the night before he escaped. She gave him PHP3000, which he might have used to get a ride.
Son was charged with obstruction of justice.
Meanwhile, the police officers who were guarding No when he escaped are facing charges for evasion through negligence. SPO2 Michael Macarubbo was out having breakfast while PO1 Ernie Eugenio fell asleep when the drug suspect escaped.
A footage from a security camera showed No just walking out of the hospital alone.
Authorities believe that he could not go far because of his medical condition.
