UP scores 71-66 win over La Salle, marks first 2-0 start in 10 years

“The UP Fighting Maroons continued its surprising start to the season after stunning De La Salle Green Archers, 71-66, for a rare win streak in UAAP Season 78 action on Wednesday, Septembe 9, at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum,” reports InterAksyon.com.

Since the UP Fighting Maroons beat the UE Red Warriors on opening day last Sat, Sep 5, their victory over the La Salle Green Archers put the team on top of the team standings. It’s  their first 2-0 start since 2005.

The report noted: “Jett Manuel scored 14 points and five rebounds to pace UP. Paul Desiderio added 13 markers while Piero Longa chipped in 10 points.”

The report added that “UP led by as much as 17 points, 54-37, against a more fancied La Salle side in the third period.” Although La Salle made a late comeback and trimmed its deficit to five, 64-59 in the last minutes of the game the UP Fighting Maroons prevailed.
