Scam alert! Fake passport stamps used by human traffickers

The creativity of scam artists have no limits.

On Thu, Octr 27, Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioner Jaime Morente revealed that human traffickers are now using fake BI stamps in order to get their victims get past airport security.

Airport officials uncovered the new scam after a Filipina who was disguised as a tourist later admitted that she was actually going to Dubai to work as a maid. She was supposed to board a Cathay Pacific flight to Dubai at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, but failed to get past secondary inspection.

The victim’s traffickers supposedly instructed her to “stamp her passport and boarding pass” to get past immigration officers. She met her “agent” at a restaurant in Pasay City to recieve the fake stamp prior to heading to the departure area.

“She was previously offloaded at the Clark International Airport (CIA) for being a suspected ‘tourist worker’  or an undocumented overseas worker disguised as tourist,” ABS-CBN News reports.

The victim has been turned over to the custody of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for further investigation.
