Scam alert: Bands say that ‘Sagada Music Festival’ is fake

It seems like anything can be faked these days

Local band The Ransom Collective warned the public about the “Sagada Music Festival,” which is absolutely NOT happening on Oct 22 to 23.

The “fraudulent and fabricated event” supposedly features local bands like The Ransom Collective, Up Dharma Down, Giniling Festival, Silent Sanctury, Yolanda Moon, SUD, Maude, Jensen and the Flips, Skymarines, Espiya X, Sagada Rasta, and Bughaw Laya.

The suspected scammers used fictitious names. They created accounts in Cebuana Lhuillier and LBC Express Inc., to collect payment. The Facebook event page was taken down on Wed morning, Oct 12.

A concerned netizen pointed out that the poster for the event was also shamelessly copied.

Carlos Tanada of Up Dharma Down uploaded a screen shot of the payment method for the event.

“They say the organizers of the event are abroad and should be back anytime this week. They couldn’t be contacted for two weeks now,” he said.

“I hope nobody deposited money [to] this account to watch us,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Up Dharma Down page encouraged the victims to send complaints along with the scanned receipts to sagadafestivalscam@gmail.com.

The Sagada Music Festival early bird rate was priced at PHP2,500, while the regular ticket was PHP5,000.

We hope the authorities catch whoever is behind this scam.
