SC mulls holding bar exams outside Metro Manila

It may be time to “decentralize” the bar exams.

“The Supreme Court (SC) has started studying the request of the Cebu City council to conduct the bar examinations outside Metro Manila for law graduates in the Visayas and Mindanao,” reports Rey G. Panaligan in the Manila Bulletin.

To date, bar examinations have been conducted by the SC in Metro Manila only. This year, they were held in four Sundays of October at the University of Santo Tomas.

However, as the report detailed, “the Cebu City council cited the expenses incurred by law graduates in the Visayas and Mindanao for their one-month stay in Metro Manila for the bar examinations.” The council reasoned that if the bar examinations are conducted simultaneously in Cebu City, law graduates in the Visayas and Mindanao would spend less for their month-long upkeep.
