Saudia plane, 2 pilots grounded after overshooting NAIA runway

We all want to know what happened.

“The Saudia plane that skidded on the runaway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday night, August 5, has been grounded together with its pilots as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) investigates the incident,” reports Raymund F. Antonio in Tempo.

The report noted: “Grounded pending investigation, a report from CAAP, were the two pilots: Captains Alfaraidhy Abdulmajeed Abdulraheem and Al Bassam Adnan Mohammed.”

The report said both pilots “underwent medical examination immediately and are now facing inquiry by aviation probers.”

Saudia Flight 871 was about to take off for Riyadh when it overshot the NAIA runway and got stuck on its grassy portion.

The 298 passengers and 26 crew members were shaken but unharmed.

However as a result of the incident, 11 flights were affected.

CAAP revealed that “eight planes were made to divert at Clark International Airport while another three flights were diverted to Cebu Mactan International Airport due to the incident.”
