Sandiganbayan lets Gloria attend grandson’s wake, burial

Will ordinary inmates get the same privilege?

“The Sandiganbayan 1st Division is allowing former president and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to visit the wake of her grandson for six days, from 12 noon to 10 p.m. each day. Then on the day of the burial, November 10, Arroyo will be allowed out of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m,” reports ANC.

The report noted that “this was the Sandiganbayan’s decision in light of the Arroyo camp’s petition for temporary house arrest.”

Arroyo had originally wanted to be out of the VMMC for nine consecutive days. She was hoping to be detained at her home in La Vista, Quezon City for the duration of the said duration.

Arroyo’s late grandchild, Jorge Alonzo or “Jugo,” is the son of her daughter Luli Arroyo-Bernas. He had a congenital heart condition.

Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan should brace itself for some harsh words from those who think this is unfair.
