The Sandiganbayan has granted the request of former Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay to visit the United States for almost two weeks.
Why? To accompany his six-year-old daughter to a medical appointment, GMA News reports.
Binay is allowed to to travel from Aug 15 to Aug 24.
He was, however, required to post a bond of PHP608,000 to guarantee his compliance with the terms and conditions attached to his travel.
The pediatrician of Junjun Binay’s daughter recommended that they see allergologist and immunologist Dr. Ricardo Tan in California. This is in connection with her “very uncommon disease:” staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome.
The appointment with Tan was set on Aug 19 and 20.
It may be recalled that the former mayor and his father former vice president Jojo Binay were barred from leaving the Philippines in connection with the alleged overpriced construction of the PHP2.28-billion Makati City Hall parking building.
Junjun faces two counts of graft and one count of malversation as co-accused. While his father faces four counts of graft, nine counts of falsification of public documents and one count of malversation of public funds.
