Import Arizona Reid waxed hot from beyond the arc as the San Miguel Beermen crushed the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 124-102, to register their second win of the PBA Governors Cup Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Reid scored a game-high 41 points and was nine-of-11 from beyond the arc, tying a franchise record. Marcio Lassiter added 24 points, five rebounds, and two assists for the Beermen.
It was SMB’s second straight win after a 0-2 start to the conference.
“It feels good to be 100%. I played well last game against Rain or Shine, I played well tonight,” said Reid, who struggled with illness in their first two assignments. “I’m not one to make excuses, but if you’re sick, you’re sick.”
Now back to 100% fitness, Reid was simply dominant, and the Beermen fed off his energy. After leading by 11 points, 61-50, at the half, SMB completely pulled away in the third quarter as Reid and Lassiter took turns sniping from the perimeter.
The lead ballooned to 31 points, 104-73, when June Mar Fajardo nailed a twinner early in the fourth period.
Chris Ross had 17 points and seven assists, while Alex Cabagnot added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists off the bench.
GlobalPort, meanwhile suffered its first loss of the conference after a 3-0 start to its campaign.
Import Steve Thomas and Terrence Romeo each scored 21 points for the Batang Pier, while Doug Kramer added 16 points and barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
