Two San Juan police officers have been ordered to turn over their weapons and have been detained for their alleged torture of a detainee who later died in detention.
According to Hataw Tabloid, Police Inspector Nicanor Lambino and Police Officr 2 Bernardo Lucom are being held by the San Juan police over the death of Rey Dumaplin, a suspected snatcher.
“We are still in the process of finalizing documents regarding the death of Dumaplin prior to the filing of criminal charges against the two San Juan policemen,” Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel said.
Dumaplin was turned over to the San Juan Police in late July after allegedly stealing a bag from a 66-year-old victim. The bag supposedly contained PHP107,000, mobile phones, and valuables.
According to witnesses, the two cops beat Dumaplin up to force him to confess to the crime on July 27. Dumaplin never woke up after the alleged beating and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
