San Juan, Caloocan make cctvs mandatory for businesses

San Juan and Caloocan have both required business establishments, especially banks, to install security cameras and other surveillance equipment to deter robberies and burglaries.

San Juan has recently approved an ordinance that will require  banks, pawnshops, money changers, convenience stores, gasoline stations, money transfer centers, bills payment centers and supermarkets to have video surveillance and monitoring systems inside the stores as well as the surrounding areas. The ordinance requires the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and equipment that would allow the storage of camera footage, transmission of footage to remote video monitoring stations and the triggering of alarms.

In Caloocan City, Mayor Oscar Malapitan said they will be enforcing the cctv ordinance which was passed in 2009. He adds that the city council is considering amending the ordinance to include non financial establishments.
