It’s supposed to be part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.
“From 5am up to midnight of February 15, the roads from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta in Manila going to Mall of Asia in Pasay City will be off limits to all types of motorized vehicles on Sunday, February 15, as part of the ‘Bayanihan sa Daan’ road-sharing project of the MMDA,” reports Anna Liza Vilas-Alavaren in Manila Bulletin.
While the road closure is in effect, the report said that “people can jog, roam, walk or ride their bikes, skateboards and scooters on the wide space of the whole southbound of the roads—from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to Roxas Boulevard, Buendia then to Diokno Avenue all the way to the Mall of Asia.”
The report noted: “Motor vehicles may be parked along Katigbak Street near the Quirino Grandstand. Motorists may be able to traverse the northbound lane of the affected roads.”
