In Rosario, Cavite, no extrajudicial killings as drug users get jobs

Y’all have heard about the crazy things local governments have been doing to stop drug abuse in their areas, from the walk of shame in Tanauan City (Batangas) and Cage for Change in Rosario (Cavite).

Of course there’s also the extrajudicial killings led by unnamed vigilante groups, which are just downright disturbing and unacceptable.

So we applaud Rosario’s police department for sticking to a traditional and logical solution.

According to Rosario police chief Chief Insp Mark Joseph Laygo, since most of the 729 drug users who had surrendered to them by Sun, Jul 10, in Rosario, Cavite, are people who do not have jobs, they will be enrolled in livelihoods programs.

This will allow them to re-start their lives on a clean slate.

“The very reason they would be given livelihood opportunities to discourage them [from drug use],” Laygo told Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Jobs at factories located in Rosario’s economic zone await the drug users after a skills assessment.

Now that’s what we call progress.
