Some things are bound to get lost in translation, like this report in Pilipino Star Ngayon.
It says two rookie police officers and a taxi driver were arrested in Pasay City on Sunday for attempting to extort money from a Korean national.
Authorities identified the suspects as police officers 1 Marciano Trozado and Mark Anthony Santos, and Jesus Bajamundi, a taxi driver. The group allegedly tried getting money from Lee Young Su.
The victim said he was buying “savings paper bonds” online when he came across a seller who agreed to meet him at a hotel in Pasay City for the transaction. When Lee arrived at the meeting place, he instead encountered the suspects, who threatened to arrest him if he did not deposit the equivalent of PHP400,000 to a bank account in Korea.
Lee asked for help from the hotel security and the suspects were arrested by the police.
Now, can someone tell us what “savings paper bonds” are?
