Sometime past 4pm on Mon, Aug 24, a shootout occurred at the intersection of Quezon and Roces Avenues in Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City.
“A rogue policeman identified as Senior Police Officer 1 Wilberto Blanco and his two companions — a man and a woman — occupied a black sport utility vehicle, an Isuzu MU-X (ASA 7504). They reportedly tried to leave the area as members of Task Force Tugis were conducting an operation. Police officers reportedly fired warning shots and the suspects shot at them, triggering a firefight,” reports Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.
According to Inspector Rohaina Asalan, deputy information officer of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Blanco and the two other suspects were brought to the Capitol Medical Center. Blanco later died.
The report noted: “Four bystanders were reportedly hit by stray bullets during the shootout. One of them is a 12-year-old boy.”
The investigation is ongoing and the QCPD is expected to release more details about the two other suspects as soon as the information is cleared.
