After releasing a statement in the early hours of the morning, Vice President Leni Robredo has taken to Twitter to announce her next steps following the apparent victory by Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr in the presidential elections.
The vice president thanked her supporters for the hard work and dedication they showed throughout the campaign period and said that her team is currently consulting with experts to assess allegations of cheating and election mishaps that took place during yesterday’s polling.
Many voters reported waiting for hours, some more than 12, to cast their ballots due to numerous instances of malfunctioning vote-counting machines across the country.
Photos of sample ballots being distributed at polling stations, which goes against the guidelines of the Commission on Elections, as well as pics allegedly showing vote-buying have also circulated on social media.
In her tweets to supporters, Robredo wrote:
“Once again, I am grateful for the hard work, creativity, and heart that our supporters have brought to this campaign. Because of you, we were able to take a peek at the kind of society that we can achieve.”
“I know that you are still processing last night’s events.”
“I am aware of the questions that still hang mid-air about the situation. We are taking steps to consult with experts in order to fully study and assess the reports and allegations that we have read on social media. We will immediately share the outcome of this study.”
“There will be a mass in Naga City at 5:30pm to thank our volunteers. I will be there to thank our fellowmen here.
On May 13, we will organize a gathering in Manila to give thanks to our volunteers. I will also be there. We will be releasing details about this event soon.
I pray for the peace of mind and the clarity of our future for all of us.”
