With COVID-19 cases rising across the country and Metro Manila expected to see a resurgence this week, former Vice President Leni Robredo has resumed the Bayanihan E-Konsulta program, once a free telemedicine initiative under the Office of the Vice President, under her newly established NGO, the Angat Buhay Foundation.
Robredo called for 50 non-medical volunteers and 40 medical volunteers to help resume the program on her official Facebook page on Wednesday.
Within just 20 minutes of posting, over 1,000 volunteers signed up for the program, according to a tweet by the former VP.
“In less than 20 minutes, 1,100 volunteers already signed up for the resumption of Bayanihan e-Konsulta. Thank you. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well,” she wrote.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP), under Robredo, launched Bayanihan E-Konsulta in April 2021 as a teleconsultation service for Filipinos at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in a bid to decongest overflowing hospitals as cases were surging at that time.
The OVP ended the program on May 31 this year as Robredo stepped down from her post after having assisted over 58,000 COVID and non-COVID cases throughout its run.
