With the 2022 campaign pre-season heating up, Philippine politicians this week have found themselves in a flurry of speculation about who’s running, and for which positions.
Vice President Leni Robredo, widely tipped to be the opposition candidate in the next year’s presidential elections, has put a stop to rumors that she is running for the governership of Camarines Sur.
“Amidst much speculation, I will repeat what I’ve said before: There has been no decision that I would run as governor. I remain open to being a candidate for the Presidency,” Robredo said in Filipino through her official Facebook account.
The Vice President continued, “There are many considerations to think about, but certainly I will make a decision at the right time. I promise everyone that I will make an announcement once the decision has been made.”
The rumors apparently began when Vice President Robredo filed for a change in residency, from Naga to Camarines Sur. The vice president has since clarified that the change had to do with family property matters, not politics.
