Richard Gomez takes oath as Ormoc City mayor

He got lucky on his nth try.

On Thu, Jun 30, actor-turned-politician Richard Gomez took his oath of office as the mayor of Ormoc City, Leyte. This was a milestone in the political career that Gomez has been wanting for several years.

An ABS-CBNnews.com report recalled: “In 2001, party-list group Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD), which named Gomez as a nominee, was disqualified by the Supreme Court. In 2007, Gomez ran for senator but lost. He again tried for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2010 but was disqualified due to residency issues. In 2013, he lost the mayoralty race to Edward Codilla by a slim margin of fewer than 3,000 votes.”

Yesterday, Gomez’s wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, also took her oath as the representative of the 4th District of Leyte along with Ormoc City vice mayor Carmelo Locsin and councilor Vince Rama.

Rama’s aunt, talent manager Annabelle Rama, and his cousin, Richard Gutierrez, were also present at the event.
