The life of a retired police officer was cut short on Sunday when he was shot by still unidentified assailants in Barangay (Village) Industrial Valley Complex, Marikina City.
Retired Police Chief Inspector Elmer Corbe, 52 years old, was just refereeing a basketball game in the village’s court near his house when two men riding a motorcycle drove by, got out of the vehicle, and started shooting him, Abante reported.
The incident happened at around 6:45pm, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. The same report states that Corbe was brought to the Marikina Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
He sustained gunshots on the head and body, Radyo Inquirer said.
According to the Manila Bulletin, the suspects immediately fled the scene and drove towards Libis, Quezon City. Their motive for the crime is still unknown.
According to Inquirer, Corbe served in Marikina City, Quezon City, and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao before retiring in July 2017.
