Well, this is a welcome surprise.
The last time we heard about Laperal Apartments on CM Recto Avenue in Manila, it was set for demolition.
It turns out that one of the city’s last remaining Art Deco buildings may have been gutted inside, but it is still alive and standing.
In fact, at the Q Festival art fair last week, it even hosted an exhibition in its arcade area.
From what we’ve heard, the building has been rehabilitated and has been turned into part commercial space, part student dormitory (it is, after all, located in the University Belt area, right across San Sebastian College).
We shall update this story as soon as we get more information.
