Addressing the shortage of buses plying EDSA, the Philippine Coast Guard deployed “rescue buses” offering free rides to commuters to ease congested bus stations following the easing of restrictions to Alert Level 3 across Metro Manila.

In a Facebook post, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) said that it requested the PCG to send buses to the congested bus stops along EDSA, and welcomed the PCG’s speedy response.

“I express my gratitude to our Coast Guards as this would greatly help not just us but especially the commuters who painstakingly queue long lines due to the recent shortage of buses that we are currently experiencing,” I-ACT chief Brigadier General Manuel Gonzales said in a statement.

According to the PCG, about 600 passengers received free bus rides. The PCG added that they will continue providing free bus rides until October 22.
