The man seems to have a lot of time on his hands.
“Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza wants to ban foreign soap operas, or telerseryes, from Philippine prime-time television, saying the popular shows are crowding out local productions and talent,” reports InterAksyon.com.
He believes in this cause so much that he’s filed a bill about it. According to the report, House Bill 3839 was crafted “in defense of the local entertainment industry, as well as to promote the creativity needed to spur production and increase employment.”
Atienza pointed out: “While it is entertaining to watch television shows also known as teleseryers from our neighboring countries such as South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, the proliferation of such shows lessen the time available for our Philippine-produced shows. I know that my proposal will cause controversy, but there is need to regulate the entry of foreign teleseryes into primetime programming to promote local creativity and empower Philippine producers to create content and employ more local talents.”
