But exactly how much are the birds?
“Makati 2nd District Representative Mar-Len Abigail Binay answered questions on the exotic birds that she allegedly owns inside the alleged properties of her father Vice President Jejomar Binay in Batangas,” reports RG Cruz on ABS-CBNnews.com.
Binay confirmed that she owns several birds that are now placed in the aviary in Batangas. “We have nine hectares in Batangas,” she said.
The report noted: “Binay explained that the birds are her family’s but under her name. Her mom is a bird enthiusiast, she said. She said the birds were left there since an aviary was constructed there.”
Binay said she registered the birds with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) because some of them were tagged as “exotic.”
Binay was quick to clarify, however, that the term “exotic” didn’t mean “expensive.”
She said, “They’re just called exotic because they’re not endemic to the Philippines. For example, the Blue-and-gold Macaw, that is endemic to South America. That is why it’s called exotic. Even if you look at its registration. It’s not expensive. Is a dove expensive?”
Binay, who is a lawyer by profession, “attributes her personal wealth to her work as a lawyer and as a distributor of Smart e-load.”
“Before I joined Congress, I was into business. I made my own money even if you ask my dad. I’m the most independent among my siblings. You know e-load, I used to be a distributor. I made money there before I entered Congress,” she explained.
Binay is now on her last congressional term and is expected to help her father in his future plans.
