Motorcycle-hailing app Angkas was closed down earlier today in a sting operation that took place in the Metro Manila cities of Taguig, Makati, and Mandaluyong.

Authorities closed its Makati City office for failure to show a business permit.

According to a report in Rappler, Land Transportation Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Aileen Lizada called the motorcycle service “good as closed.”

At least 19 Angkas riders were also apprehended. The LTFRB had repeatedly called out the company over the alleged lack of training of its drivers to carry passengers.

Today’s sting operations were similar to a crackdown the agency did on ride-hailing apps Uber and Grab last July.
