The Philippines is certainly having its New York moment.

Set against the super hyped-up exhibit, Philippine Gold: Treasures from Forgotten Kingdoms at the Asia Society Museum in New York, is Filipino Design now, a special designer showcase that will run from today, Sep 11 to Jan 3, 2016.

It features 14 renowned Filipino designers, who have been invited by Asia Society to create products inspired by how they know Philippine culture to be.

It is the exclusive collections of Maricris Brias, Leona Cabili, Federico de Vera, Ian Giron, Jewelmer, Natalya Lagdameo, Josie Natori, Tina Ocampo, Wynn Wynn Ong, Anne Marie Saguil, Ditta Sandico, Rafe Totengco, Bea Valdes, and Al Valenciano — ranging from jewelry to textiles to home accents — that make up Filipino Design Now.

Co-conceptualized by Asia Society and celebrated New York gallery owner and Filipino jewelry designer Federico de Vera, the showcase is an excellent opportunity to experience the rich culture and heritage of the Philippines. In Filipino design and craftsmanship, there is much inspiring pride.

The Philippine Gold: Treasures of A Forgotten Kingdom, meanwhile, features over 100 spectacular pre-colonial gold pieces dating from the 10th to the 13th century. They are from the collections of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Ayala Museum.

Asia Society, in case you’ve been living under a rock, is an educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships and among people, leaders and institutions in Asia and the United States.
