Classes in all Quezon City schools are suspended on Mon, Jul 25, to give way to President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address, to be delivered in Batasang Pambansa.
The suspension applies to all school levels.
Award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, known for his recent film Ma’ Rosa, is directing the SONA 2016 videos for free. He says he wants to show Filipinos the real Duterte.
With a maximum capacity of 1,650 people, the Plenary Hall will surely be filled with the country’s leaders.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Oscar Albayalde says his group has already monitored security threats to Duterte’s first SONA, and that violent protests are not expected since Duterte’s term has just begun.
Some 6,400 policemen will be deployed in the vicinity, while 4,600 reserve personnel will be on standby, according to CNN Philippines.
