Now, you won’t have to pay for a full cup of rice when all you really want is half of a cup.
“All eating establishments in Quezon City—from lowly eateries to upscale restaurants, including canteens in hospitals or schools—must offer customers the option of ordering a half-a-cup of rice,” reports Erika Sauler in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The “Half-Cup Rice Ordinance,” which was approved by Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista last month, was introduced by 5th District councilor Allan Butch Francisco to “minimize wastage, especially within the food service industry.”
Those who fail to comply with the measure on the first offense would merit a written reprimand. Second offense violators will be penalized with a PHP1,000 fine, while third-time offenders will be fined with PHP2,000 and one month suspension of license or permit to operate.
