There are so many things wrong with this picture that we don’t know where to begin.
It shows that the country needs to shape up on the implementation of its K to 12 Program. For now, it looks good on paper, but its execution in reality is not quite there yet.
At Batasan Hills National High School in Quezon City, school administrators were expecting 2,600 students for their senior high school program. However, only 89 enrolled by the start of the new schoolyear on Jun 13.
“School principal Dr. Diego Amid explained that their students moved to private schools and state universities and colleges (SUCs) to make use of the PHP20,000 vouchers given to them [by the government],” reports ABS-CBN News.
That’s just as well because, as the report indicated, “even with the small turnout of enrolees in senior high school, students had to use temporary classrooms because the 12 new classrooms are still under construction and are scheduled to be completed on Jul 1.”
Meanwhile, another 24 classrooms have indefinite due dates for completion.
On the bright side, the number of teachers has increased from 360 to 480.
