QC police arrest motorcycle theft gang leader

The Quezon City Police District has neutralized the “Buhat Motorcycle” gang of motorcycle thieves after it arrested the gang’s leader.

According to the QCPD, alleged ring leader Wilster Chan was arrested in a buy-bust operation at a supermarket in Quezon City on Wednesday.

Earlier that day, police also arrested Al Mercado, who sold an undercover police officer a stolen 2012 Yamaha Mio at Hi-Top Supermarket on Aurora Boulevard.

After questioning, Mercado led police to another supermarket where he was supposed to meet Chan. Chan, who arrived in a Nissan van, was arrested immediately.

“In plain view, the Nissan van was suspicious.  It was heavily tinted and old-model,” Senior Police Officer 1 Fernando Tan of the Anti-Carnapping Section said. Police had Chan open the van and “to their surprise, another Yamaha Mio Sporty 2012 model flashed before their eyes,” QCPD said in a press statement.

Tan said the motorcycle thieves simply pushed parked motorcycles into the van using a wooden plank as a ramp.

After the arrest, Mercado led police to his house in Project 4, where he surrendered a 2011 Suzuki Raider stolen from Marikina in May. He said he bought the motorcycles in good faith.
