QC mayor says no to ‘plaka vest’ ordinance

It seemed like a good idea—until you realize you can’t really regulate people coming from other cities.

“Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has vetoed a controversial measure that will require riding-in-tandems in the city to wear vests bearing the plate number of their motorcycles,” reports Janvic Mateo in The Philippine Star.

Bautista was quoted as saying in a press conference, “I have decided, based on studies and also the recommendation of the city legal office, to veto this particular ordinance.”

Bautista explained that “the proposal is ‘unwieldy’ as it seeks to regulate the movement of riders coming from other localities and would make them fall under the coverage of the measure.”
