QC gov’t pushes drug tests for barangay officials

It’s disheartening to know that some barangay officials could be so deplorable.

“Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. announced on Tuesday, April 22, that it is backing the Quezon City government’s plan to conduct drug testing for its barangay personnel,” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

According to Cacdac, QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, chairperson of the Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse Advisory Council, is pushing for the drug testing after receiving reports that some barangay officials are hooked on illegal drugs.

The report indicated that “in 2013, the PDEA reported that 138 unscrupulous government officials, including 44 elected politicians, and 60 government employees and barangay functionaries, were arrested for drug-related offenses.”

Bad trip, right?
