QC gov’t approves rice allowance for public school teachers

This is a good start.

“The more than 13,000 Quezon City (QC) teachers in addition to other non-teaching personnel in the city’s public schools will soon be accorded their quarterly rice allowance worth PHP1,500 after the city council approved the measure,” reports Chito A. Chavez in Manila Bulletin.

The ordinance, which was authored by QC 5th District Councilor Godofredo Liban, decrees that “all teaching and non-teaching personnel of the division of city schools of QC are entitled to receive the rice subsidy regardless of the status of employment.”

The report pointed out that “all employees who have rendered at least four months of service are entitled to the rice subsidy which includes those facing pending administrative cases.”

As for those with cases, the rice allowance for the entire year is forfeited if an employee is meted a penalty that is more than a reprimand.

The ordinance is now awaiting the signature of Mayor Herbert Bautista.
