Three Quezon City councilors are proposing the construction of a facility to take care of indigent senior citizens, saying a number of the elderly in the city lack the care and attention they rightly deserve. In a draft measure, Councilors Rogelio Juan, Ramon Medalla, and Ranulfo Ludovica are asking the local government to set aside PHP3 million for the proposed facility for the elderly. The draft ordinance indicates that the facility which will admit persons over 65 years old will be staffed by social workers. An indigent elderly person has a monthly income not exceeding PHP40,000 a month, the measure read. Senior citizens may stay at the proposed facility unless the person’s family commits to take care of them.
