QC councilor wants you to “eat” your surroundings

So, aside from paying for garbage collection, Quezon City residents may soon also be ordered to plant only edible things in their garden.

“QC 5th District Councilor Allan Butch Francisco has filed an ordinance promoting edible landscaping, saying that residents should ditch ornamental plants and go for planting vegetables or fruit trees in their backyards,” reports Chito A. Chavez in the Manila Bulletin.

Apparently, Francisco believes that edible landscaping will help solve “the never-ending problem of vegetable availability.”

The report said that Francisco suggested that “the local government could request assistance from the Department of Agriculture and the University of the Philippines-Los Baños for technology transfer.”

But what if the residents don’t want to plant vegetables?
