Quezon City seems to be looking for more and more ways to generate income.
“Quezon City 5th District councilor Aly Medalla said there is a need to amend the penalties on the anti-scalping ordinance passed in 1955,” reports Chito A. Chavez in the Manila Bulletin.
Under the outdated law, scalping is penalized with a PHP10 to PHP50 fine and imprisonment for only five to 30 days. *Medalla has filed a measure that will impose “a fine of not more than P5,000 and an imprisonment of not more than one year, based on the discretion of the court.”
Medalla reportedly started crafting the ordinance after it was reported that scalpers made a killing during the basketball finals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in October 2013 between De La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas.
