QC councilor wants 40 kph speed limit for Katipunan Avenue

But isn’t the area usually a “turtle-speed zone” even without the speed limit? (But those U-turn slots are kinda dangerous!)

“Citing the rising number of road accidents due to speeding and reckless driving,  Quezon City 3rd District Councilor Benedict Reyes has drafted an ordinance is calling for a 40-kph speed limit on Katipunan Avenue,” reports Julie M. Aurelio in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Reyes wants the restriction observed from White Plains to Tandang Sora. He also suggests that violators be fined anywhere from PHP2,000 to HPP5,000. Of course, he said “emergency vehicles like ambulances and firetrucks are exempted.”

The report noted though: “If approved, the Katipunan speed limit would be lower than that imposed on another major Quezon City thoroughfare, Commonwealth Avenue, where the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) apprehends motorists who go beyond 60 kph.”
