Because of Alaska’s Wednesday win, Purefoods tied with the Tropang Texters at the top spot of the PBA standing. Tonight, Friday, Purefoods Hotshots will have to win for a shot at the twice-to-beat quarterfinal privilege.
“A loss would more or less knock them out of a top two berth for that playoff bonus and a triple-tie with the Elasto Painters — who mangled them badly the only time they met — and the Tropang Texters who won’t allow the Hotshots to win in the tiebreak,” reports Musong Castillo on Inquirer.net.
Purefoods coach Tim Cone acknowledged they’ll need help from the other teams. “Of course, I like where we are now, considering that we are assured of playing on a level field at worst. But if we can get the (quarterfinal) bonus (by finishing in the top two), we would take that,” the coach was quoted in the report.
Expected to lead the Hotshots tonight is import Denzel Bowles, who has, in the past two games, been ripping the score boards with his stellar play.
