Puppy saves little girl from fire in General Santos City

A four-month-old Belgian Malinois named Princess is being hailed as a local hero in General Santos City after saving the life of a five-year-old girl who was sleeping inside a burning house at 2am.

In a post by veterinarian Jacquiline Rufino Madi, she shared that Princess and her owner’s family woke up to a fire inside their house on April 20.

In a panic, everyone rushed out of the house, but Princess kept barking at her owner, as if to tell him that something was wrong.

“For some reason, Princess wouldn’t stop barking at her owner as if she is telling them something. When this puppy finally caught her owner’s attention, she immediately ran back inside the burning house,” Madi wrote.

“Her owner was shocked but straight away followed the dog inside the burning and almost collapsing house. Only to find out that the owner’s daughter, a five-year old child, was still inside, deeply asleep,” she added.

The owner immediately picked up his child and ran out as fast as he could while avoiding the fire and other collapsing materials.

Princess managed to get out by following her owner’s steps, but suffered burns from the incident.

“Her face and 4 legs, particularly her pads, were severely affected,” the vet said.

Animal welfare organization A Heart For Paws Gensan brought Princess to the vet, after a local bakery owner informed them about the case.

General Santos City-based Buttercream by Mr. and Mrs. Rio are raising funds for the puppy’s treatment by donating half of their incoming Mother’s Day sales.
