We can all use a little more moolah, yeah?
A survey conducted by Pulse Asia from Sept 25 to Oct 1 with 1,200 respondents revealed that raising pay is urgent for most Filipinos.
Some 46 percent of the respondents said that President Rodrigo Duterte should make it his priority to increase workers’ wages, especially for those in Classes D and E across the country, The Philippine Star reports.
For Classes A, B, and C, the rising prices of commodities is the top concern (38 percent) but improving pay still comes at a close second (37 percent).
Aside from higher salaries, here are the other top concerns of Filipinos:
-creating more jobs (38 percent)
-controlling inflation (37 percent)
-fighting corruption in government(32 percent)
-reducing poverty (32 percent)
-and fighting criminality (31 percent)
The survey also shows that the country is “generally happy” with how the government is dealing with national issues.
Take note: 89 percent of survey respondents the Duterte administration for its anti-crime initiatives, but only 51 percent is happy with the government’s ability to control inflation.
Pulse Asia noted that the urgency of increasing workers’ wage spans across all geographic areas and socio-economic groups.
The respondents were least concerned about terrorist threats, defending national territorial integrity against foreigners, and amending the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
Pulse Asia explained: “Between July and September 2016, levels of public concern for various issues remain essentially constant. The only significant movement during this period is the drop in the percentage of Filipinos who identify criminality as an urgent national concern (-21 percentage points).”
