A district engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and his driver were wounded in an ambush this morning as he was on his way to work in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
Nicomedes Padilla Jr. was being driven at about 8am today by his chauffeur Gerry Calisa along the city’s Lapulapu Street when the driver noticed another vehicle overtaking them, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports. A gunman in the other vehicle fired at Padilla’s Ford Ranger pickup several times, wounding both the engineer and his driver.
Padilla told his driver to continue driving towards the DPWH compound on the same street. Calisa then drove Padilla to the hospital for treatment in a DPWH vehicle, the Daily Tribune reports. Meanwhile, the gunman and his driver fled towards Corregidor Street.
The police have found bullets lodged inside Parilla’s vehicle, and are currently hunting down the assailants and determining the possible motives behind the ambush.
