Public schools barred from collecting fees at enrollment

Education Secretary Armin Luistro has reminded public schools that the Department of Education prohibits the collection of any fees during enrollment.

According to a statement on the Official Gazette, Luistro said “there is an urgent need to minimize, if not eliminate, financial constraints among parents durng the opening of classes.” That includes voluntary contributions and other fees.

“Let me be clear on this, in no case shall non-payment of voluntary school contributions or membership fees be made a basis for non-admission, non-promotion or non-issuance of clearance to a student. And that includes withholding of report cards,” Luistro said.
