Public school teacher in debt because of an innocent FB photo

By now, we should all know the dangers of posting private information on social media.

Public school teacher Mark Joseph Lontok learned his lesson the hard way. Because of an innocent picture uploaded on Facebook, he found himself with a PHP800,000 debt for loans he did not apply for.

Mark said he received notifications from three banks saying that he borrowed a total of PHP800,000 in salary loans. He is an unfortunate victim of identity theft.

In an interview with GMA News, Lontok shared that he posted a picture of his PRC ID (Professional Regulation Commission) on Facebook after he passed the LET (Licensure Examination for Teachers).

He also posted shots of his employment papers upon entering the public school because he was so happy to have found a job.

Over PHP9,000 is currently being deducted from his monthly salary.

Another bank is set to deduct an additional PHP10,000 from his account.

One of the banks have already submitted papers showing a clear photo of the man who applied for a loan using Mark’s identity.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reminded the public to take extra care in posting personal information online.
