Proposed QC ordinance requires bike parking spaces in business establishments

Bicycle riders will pedal joyfully over this.

“To promote the use of bicycles, Quezon City 3rd District councilor Allan Benedict Reyes has filed an ordinance that imposes penalties to owners of business establishments in the city who will fail to provide parking spaces for bicycles,” reports Chito A. Chavez in the Manila Bulletin.

Under the proposed ordinance, “a fine of PHP3,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months may be imposed on major businesses that will fail to incorporate parking lots for bicycles in their establishments.” Reyes defined major business establishments as malls, supermarkets, groceries, banks, and restaurants, among others.

The report also added that “the president, general manager, or any other officer in charge with the management of the business will be held liable in case of violation of the measure.”
