Proposal at Harry Styles’ Manila concert turns out to be fake, and fans are pissed

Remember when Harry Styles helped a couple get engaged during his Love on Tour Manila concert last week after performing a duet with the woman’s boyfriend? Turns out, it was staged — not by Harry, but apparently by the woman who held up the sign.

ICYMI, a fan named Michelle held up a handwritten sign that read, “Harry my BF said he will propose if you duet with him!”during his concert at the Philippine Arena on March 14.

At the bottom it read, “MAKE IT HAPPEN PLS” in all caps followed by a row of hearts .

Harry happened to read the sign onstage as the camera panned on Michelle and called on her boyfriend, Jeff, to perform Sign of the Times.

But based on a screenshot of one of Michelle’s social media posts, it seems that she had staged what many considered an “iconic moment” from Harry’s Manila stop.

Eagle-eyed Harry fans managed to track down Michelle’s social media page, where she wrote, “My partner was surprised as he had no idea [about the proposal],” alongside a photo of her sign.

Fans were clearly shocked and disappointed by the supposed revelation.

Fans argued that the time wasted on the fake proposal could have been used to include other songs on Harry’s Manila setlist.

Other fans pointed out that they did feel something was off during the supposed “proposal” as the guy didn’t even have a ring on him — and only asked Michelle to marry him when Harry prodded him to do so.

Another fan pointed out that another couple who got engaged — for real — during the concert and asked for their help to document the occasion deserved the spotlight more.
