Can the construction of this alleged cockpit be stopped?

“Led by priests, the parishioners of Sta. Ana in Manila’s 6th district are up in arms against the construction of a cockpit arena in their area, citing the bad influence it would bring especially to the children,” reports Itchie G. Cabayan on Journal Online.

According to sources, “an ‘events place’ where the cockpit will operate will be put up between the Holy Trinity College and the Sta. Ana Hospital specifically on Panaderos Street, which is also very near the historic Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned.”

The report noted: “Parishioners have expressed doubts that the said establishment will be an ‘events place’ only.”

Fr. Wilfredo Benito — the parish priest of Sta. Ana Church and member of the Order of Franciscan Minors which manages the said church — said in Filipino, “We have sent a letter to the city council weeks ago. We  requested for an explanation on the said issue. But we haven’t gotten any reply whatsoever.”
