Priest talks about “MRT hell”

He probably thinks that Metro Manila commuters have been “locked out of heaven.”

“Fr. Conegundo Garganta—executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Youth—said the extended operating hours of the Metro Rail Transit-3 has only worsened the situations in train stations,” reports Leslie Ann Aquino in the Manila Bulletin.

In an interview, Garganta said, “I was very disappointed when I saw the long lines leading to the train station. It seems to me nothing has changed. The situation even became worse. Although it’s a subsidized means of transportation, the commuters are still paying for their fare that’s why they deserve to be served well.”

Anticipating bad traffic due to the major road projects in Metro Manila this year, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the MRT-3 Office agreed to extend the operating hours of the metropolis’ most utilized urban rail transit system. The scheme started on Feb 24.

But if even a priest is complaining, maybe the strategy isn’t working?
