We think this is cool: Global Alert is a free mobile app, available on Android and iOS, that will allow anyone to report trash hotspots that are contributing to water and ocean pollution. It also has an online platform, if mobile is a bit too new for you.
The app, created by international NGO Ocean Recovery Alliance, will allow users to rate, report, and map the plastic pollution level in the rivers and oceans allowing volunteers and do-gooders to see where best to focus their attention and efforts first.
We highly suggest you download and use this nifty app soon because on Sep 20, there will be a huge countrywide cleanup event.
The event, spearheaded by The Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Developement for Communities (SEED4COM) and Let’s Do it Philippines, along with Ocean Recovery Alliance, aims to gather 5,000,000 volunteers for a massive cleanup drive.
You don’t even have to be in there physically — you can just use the app to rate and report a trash hotspot and you would’ve been able to help. Because the report you will file will be used by volunteers who are at the site sites IRL.
But should you wish to be at the beach to pick up trash or on the river to do the same, you can sign up at Let’s Do it Philippines Facebook page or on their website, where further instructions will be given.
The Sep 20 clean up drive will be a countrywide party, so Coconaut do-gooders in Cebu or Davao or Ilocos can participate.
What are you waiting for? Download the app! It’s free and available on both Android and iTunes.
